The benefits of eating greens

We are told that in order to be healthy we should eat a diet full of vegetables - especially green vegetables. However, few of us actually know why green vegetables are so good for us. I am going to give you an insight into how the humble broccoli can have a huge impact in helping you achieve optimal health. 

Having been labelled as a super food for some time, broccoli is packed full of nutrients. Being rich in minerals like magnesium, potassium and calcium, broccoli is also full of key vitamins C, A and K. 

That being said the health benefits are numerous;  a reduction in inflammation and pain in the body, it helps to fight against allergies, reduces cholesterol and can help your digestive system function more effectively. 

Being a true super food, it has recently been discovered that broccoli contains sulforaphane. Why is that important I hear you say? Sulforaphane can help kill cancer stem cells by attacking the root growth of tumours. It also helps to stabilise blood sugar levels and improve blood pressure and kidney function. If that wasn't enough, sulforphane also helps promote healthy skin while the carotenoids found in broccoli promote healthy eyes. 

Still don't think broccoli is worth incorporating into your diet? Well here's one more reason. Sulforaphane also activates antioxidant defence pathways in the body. This can help halt the immune system's decline and protects against the stress that causes ageing. 

Broccoli is just one example of how vegetables, more specifically green vegetables, can benefit your health. If you aren't already, make sure you eating more green vegetables. The leafier the better.
