The benefits of eating greens
We are told that in order to be healthy we should eat a diet full of vegetables - especially green vegetables. However, few of us actually know why green vegetables are so good for us. Having been labelled as a super food for some time, broccoli is packed full of nutrients. Being rich in minerals like magnesium, potassium and calcium, broccoli is also full of key vitamins C, A and K.
Being a true super food, it has recently been discovered that broccoli contains sulforaphane. Why is that important I hear you say? Sulforaphane can help kill cancer stem cells by attacking the root growth of tumours. It also helps to stabilise blood sugar levels and improve blood pressure and kidney function. If that wasn't enough, sulforphane also helps promote healthy skin while the carotenoids found in broccoli promote healthy eyes.
Still don't think broccoli is worth incorporating into your diet? Well here's one more reason. Sulforaphane also activates antioxidant defence pathways in the body. This can help halt the immune system's decline and protects against the stress that causes ageing.
